David Swindin

Chief Executive Officer

David is Chief Executive Officer of Cubico and has ultimate responsibility for the execution of the company’s strategy and day-to-day management reporting to the Board. Previously, he was responsible for managing Cubico’s business in the EMEA region, and has been with the company since its formation in 2015 when he joined as part of the original senior management team.

With more than 30 years in the infrastructure and structured finance sectors across the globe, David brings a broad experience of investment in the equity and debt markets to the company. The earlier part of his career was spent advising multinational corporations and governments in structuring complex financing transactions before heading up global asset structuring at one of Europe’s largest banks.

David Swindin

Matt Donaldson

Chief Financial Officer

He has 20 years of international experience in the energy, infrastructure and renewables sectors, and his areas of expertise include financial accounting and analysis, business development, treasury, corporate financing, insurance and energy markets risk management.

Prior to joining Cubico, Matt held various senior positions within the ENGIE Group across Australia, France and the UK, including Chief of Staff to the ENGIE Group CFO and CFO for ENGIE’s Australian joint venture operations with Mitsui.

Matt holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and is a fellow of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Olga is General Counsel and Head of Corporate Affairs at Cubico. She is responsible for strategically guiding board governance and all legal and compliance activities, as well as overseeing the human resources and communications functions. She is also Group Company Secretary and Chair of the ESG Committee.

With more than 25 years of international experience in the financial and infrastructure sectors, Olga has advised on financings and investments in diverse regions of the world and across various sectors and asset classes.  Her expertise extends to corporate affairs, talent development, governance and managing legal risks within global businesses.

Previously, Olga was Global Head of Legal for Credit & Transactional banking at Santander and held several senior legal roles at Santander both in London and Madrid.

Olga holds an English law degree from the College of Law, an MA Spanish law degree from the UAM, Madrid, and a certificate in Sustainable Leadership from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Javier Areitio

Head of Origination and Development

As Head of Origination and Development, Javier is responsible for driving Cubico’s global growth initiatives through acquisitions and greenfield development.

With 18 years of experience in the industry, Javier brings a wealth of expertise in managing the full lifecycle of renewable energy assets — from development, origination, and acquisitions to financing, construction, operations, and disposals. He has led teams responsible for bringing over 12 GW of renewable energy assets into operations across diverse markets such as the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia.

Before joining Cubico, Javier held leadership positions with major renewable energy players such as Actis, TerraForm Power and SunEdison. Prior to his renewable energy career, he was an investment banker.

Javier holds an MSc. in Management and Business Administration from ICADE in Madrid.

Javier Areitio

Head of Origination and Development

As Head of Origination and Development, Javier is responsible for driving Cubico’s global growth initiatives through acquisitions and greenfield development.

As Chief Operating Officer, Chris is responsible for leading Cubico’s HSE, construction, asset management and IT activities, as well as overseeing Cubico’s global procurement and technical teams.

Having worked within the energy sector for over 25 years, Chris has extensive experience in developing, constructing and operating renewable power projects, and has a keen focus on delivering innovative and sustainable ways to maximise their long-term value.

He has held numerous senior roles in his career working across both conventional and renewable power generation technologies in Europe and Africa, recently at PE-backed power businesses, Lekela and Globeleq.

Chris holds a BSc. In Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Nottingham.

Chris Ford

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Chris is responsible for leading Cubico’s HSE, construction, asset management and IT activities, as well as overseeing Cubico’s global procurement and technical teams.

Having worked within the energy sector for over 25 years, Chris has extensive experience in developing, constructing and operating renewable power projects, and has a keen focus on delivering innovative and sustainable ways to maximise their long-term value.

David has had extensive experience in renewable energy, from development to construction, origination, execution and asset management. David was previously Head of Iberia at Cubico, leading the growth of the business from 2 water assets to a team of 15 asset management specialists managing 8 assets in wind, water, PV and concentrating solar thermal generation. Prior to moving to Cubico, David was Head of Santander’s Asset & Capital Structuring team in Australia, following broad M&A experience as a director in investment banking at ABN AMRO and at an independent power producer where he managed development and M&A.

David has a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management at UNSW.

Alessandro Asperti

Country Head of Italy and Greece

Alessandro Asperti is Country Head of Italy and Greece at Cubico, with responsibility for the origination, M&A structuring and execution of transactions in these countries.

Previously, Alessandro was Head of Santander’s Asset & Capital Structuring team in Italy and was responsible for the bank’s equity investments in energy and infrastructure. Prior to this, Alessandro worked as head of finance at Enfinity and had extensive experience in the project finance department of GE Capital and Intesa San Paolo with a focus on the energy sector.

He graduated from University Bocconi and holds a MA Degree in Institutions and Financial Markets Management.

Alessandro Asperti

Country Head of Italy and Greece

Alessandro Asperti is Country Head of Italy and Greece at Cubico, with responsibility for the origination, M&A structuring and execution of transactions in these countries.

Previously, Alessandro was Head of Santander’s Asset & Capital Structuring team in Italy and was responsible for the bank’s equity investments in energy and infrastructure. Prior to this, Alessandro worked as head of finance at Enfinity and had extensive experience in the project finance department of GE Capital and Intesa San Paolo with a focus on the energy sector.

He graduated from University Bocconi and holds a MA Degree in Institutions and Financial Markets Management.

Osvaldo Rance

Country Head of Mexico

Previously, Osvaldo was managing director of the Balam Fund I (funded by institutional investors including the IDB and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation), whose mandate is investing in renewable energy and energy efficiency exclusively in Mexico. Prior to that, Osvaldo was Head of Santander’s Asset & Capital Structuring team in Mexico, deploying equity in investments in renewable energy in excess of US$ 250 million.

Osvaldo holds a BS in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México (UNAM), and an MBA from New York University’s (NYU) Leonard Stern School of Business.

James became Country Head of Northern Europe after more than 6 years at Cubico, most recently as Head of Investment Oversight where he worked closely with all regional teams, the Executive Committee and the company’s shareholders on the evaluation, approval and execution of transactions. This encompassed deals across 15 countries in a variety of technologies including solar, wind, CSP and transmission.

Prior to joining Cubico, James worked in EY’s Energy Corporate Finance team, focused on buy and sell-side renewable energy M&A.

James graduated from Bristol University and is a CFA charterholder.

Stacey Kusters

Country Head of United States

Stacey Kusters is Country Head of United States at Cubico, leading investments in new transactions, as well as supervising all aspects relating to the operations and asset management of the business.

Previously, Stacey was Senior Vice President at Berkshire Hathaway Energy Investment and was responsible for underwriting and executing close to $4 billion (USD) in tax equity transactions. Prior to this, Stacey held several senior management positions within the Berkshire Hathaway Energy companies responsible for the acquisitions of wind and solar assets, and structuring and pricing complex transactions across the United States.

She graduated from Simon Fraser University and holds an Executive Management degree from University of British Columbia.

Country Head of United States

Stacey Kusters is Country Head of United States at Cubico, leading investments in new transactions, as well as supervising all aspects relating to the operations and asset management of the business.

Previously, Stacey was Senior Vice President at Berkshire Hathaway Energy Investment and was responsible for underwriting and executing close to $4 billion (USD) in tax equity transactions. Javier Perez del Castillo brings over 15 years of expertise in finance and sustainable investments to his role as Country Manager for Cubico Sustainable Investments in Uruguay, a position he has held since September 2022. Based in Montevideo, he leads strategic initiatives and sustainable projects, enhancing the company’s impact in the region.

Prior to this, Javier was pivotal as the Senior Vice President of Latin America Origination & Execution at Cubico, where from January 2019 to September 2022, he spearheaded major sustainable investment projects across Latin America. His earlier role as Vice President of US Origination & Execution in Stamford, USA, saw him significantly boosting business operations and growth from January 2017 to January 2019.

Before joining Cubico, Javier had a significant tenure at Banco Santander in both the United States and Spain where he honed his skills in structured finance and risk analysis. He is a graduate in Economics from Universidad de Montevideo.
