Cubico Sustainable Investments, in partnership with Celsia under the 50/50 joint investment platform C2 Energía, today announces the commissioning of Celsia Solar Buga 2, a 15.16 MWp (9.9 MWac) solar facility delivering renewable energy under long‑term supply agreements to three industrial plants in the Guadalajara de Buga area.
The new plant is expected to generate approximately 23,000 MWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to around 634,000 MWh over a 25‑year lifespan, and avoid nearly 16,748 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, an impact akin to planting nearly 2.8 million trees in a single year.
During peak construction, Celsia Solar Buga 2 supported 330 jobs, with local labour representing the majority and women accounting for 12 % of the workforce. Among the facility’s industrial off‑takers, Colomsa now sources around 35 % of its electricity from solar, reducing both emissions and energy costs, and strengthening its sustainability credentials; a QBCo production site now receives 35-40 % of its electricity from solar power, achieving nearly 20 % savings in energy costs.
This milestone reinforces Cubico and Celsia’s strategic collaboration via C2 Energía. To date, the platform operates 20 solar farms each larger than 8 MW across Colombia, including Valle del Cauca, Cauca, Tolima, Sucre and Bolívar, with a combined operational capacity of 356 MWp. Since 2023, the combined Cubico–Celsia Colombian portfolio has surpassed 300 MWp, with additional projects additional hundreds of megawatts currently under construction or in advanced development.
The commissioning of Celsia Solar Buga 2 underscores Cubico’s growing presence in Colombia and reaffirms its commitment to advancing the country’s energy transition through partnership and meaningful local impact. The project sets a strong example of how renewables can support sustainable industrial operations while generating socio‑economic and environmental value. Cubico looks forward to continuing its expansion in Colombia, working with Celsia and leveraging the scalable C2 Energía platform.
