MANCHESTER, 05 May 2026 – Cubico Sustainable Investments is pleased to announce that the Examination phase of the Frodsham Solar Development Consent Order (DCO) has now concluded, marking a significant step forward for the proposed solar farm in Cheshire. The project will now move into the recommendation phase, during which the Examining Authority will prepare its report for the Secretary of State.

The Frodsham Solar Farm, set to be located near Frodsham in Cheshire West and Chester, is designed to generate over 100 MW of clean, home-grown electricity, alongside a co-located Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to support grid stability and manage fluctuations in supply and demand. The energy generated could support a mix of homes, businesses and industry, reflecting the growing demand for reliable low-carbon power across the region.

Throughout the pre-application, statutory consultation and Examination phases, Cubico has worked closely with local communities, stakeholders, landowners and statutory consultees to shape a proposal that is both landscape-led and responsive to local priorities.

The project will deliver biodiversity enhancements, including the creation of extensive habitats for wetland birds and enhance local accessibility through the introduction of permissive paths.

The close of Examination marks the start of the next stage in the DCO process. The Examining Authority is expected to submit its Recommendation Report to the Secretary of State with a final decision anticipated before the end of 2026.

Rosie Vetter, Head of UK Development at Cubico Sustainable Investments, said:

“I would like to congratulate the team on reaching this important milestone. We have worked closely with local stakeholders and the wider community to ensure the design reflects both the environmental character of the area and the needs of those living and working nearby.

Frodsham is particularly well positioned, given both its location and its potential. It sits at the centre of an area that is becoming increasingly important for clean energy and industry, and the electricity generated could support a wide range of demand, from households and local businesses to larger industrial users. As the project moves into the next stage, our focus will remain on maintaining constructive engagement and ensuring that the project delivers enduring value for the region.”
